Russian revisionism and military prowess: the war in Donbass is approaching its seventh anniversary

It will soon be seven years since the outbreak of a military conflict in eastern Ukraine, which has claimed the lives of more than 10,000 people, destroyed homes and infrastructure, and possibly permanently damaged relations between the two neighbors.
Transforming Ukraine eastern territories on the battlefield, Russia presented itself to the whole world as a revisionist state and demonstrated its military “dexterity.” The war in Donbass is not “frozen” – fighting and shooting continue.

In July 2020, the two sides in the Donbass conflict agreed on a “complete cessation of hostilities”, which included the withdrawal of heavy weapons from the front line, reducing both the number of shootings and the number of casualties.

However, in February 2021, the military conflict intensified again. It has been reported that heavy artillery is reappearing on the front lines, and the number of ceasefire violations has also increased. The Unian portal has also reported a number of violations of the ceasefire by Russian-backed separatists in recent days.
