Russian Private Military Company “Wagner” Leader Blames Lack of Shells on Russian Ministry of Defense, Claims Brigade Abandoned Strategic Bridgehead

After Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a speech at the Victory Parade in Moscow, the press office of the head of the Private Military Company “Wagner” Yevgeny Prigozhin published a new series of his videos in which he again talks about the lack of shells and blames the military problems on the blissfully ignorant “grandfather”.

“Happy grandpa thinks he’s happy… How do we win the war if it suddenly turns out that grandpa is a complete jerk” states Prigozhin.

According to Prigozhin, the Russian Ministry of Defense has never provided ammunition to the Wagnerites, who have been storming Bakhmut for almost six months now and have suffered thousands of casualties.

“Vagner” PMC, Prigozhin claims, were warned that leaving the positions would be considered treason, the “Moscow Times” reported.

At the same time, he says, “today one of the divisions of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation escaped from one of our flanks, abandoning its positions. They all ran and exposed a front almost two kilometers wide and 500 meters deep.” The businessman specified in the recording that the positions were left by the 72nd Brigade of the Russian Ministry of War. According to him, the Russian military abandoned a strategic bridgehead where about 500 mercenaries from PMC “Wagner” died.

He does not say which section of the front is in question. According to video footage, Ukrainian troops have recently advanced into the villages of Sako and Vanzeti in the north, as well as occupied a former position of the Wagner Company in Ozaryanovka, south of Bakhmut.

Prihozhin claims that the Ukrainian armed forces are “tearing their flanks” in the direction of Bakhmut, are regrouping in Zaporozhye and will launch a counteroffensive in the near future.

In the video, Prigozhin also says that the Russian Ministry of Defense has not provided PMC Wagner with the promised ammunition. According to him, on May 8, the ministry held a meeting where it was decided that the PMC would receive 10% of the requested ammunition. He is indignant that the shells, instead of going to the front, are kept in warehouses.

Prigogine had earlier threatened that if the necessary amount of ammunition did not arrive, his army would leave the positions in Bakhmut on May 10. However, he was sharply criticized by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who actually forbade Wagner from leaving the front.

“When we start making progress, only then will we determine where you go next. <...> I tell you according to the concepts – you have to do this, this and this. People will contact you and explain”Kadyrov said.

He urged Wagner’s fighters to approach the Chechen commanders and promised better terms than Prigogine’s.

“If you stay with us, I promise you we will give you more… We will create better conditions than today”Kadyrov said.

In the new video, Prigozhin says that PMC “Wagner” will not leave Bakhmut for a few more days. “We will not leave Artemovsk, we will insist for a few more days. We will fight, and then we will understand,” he added.
