Russian Private Army ‘Rosgvarda’ Incorporates Thousands of Wagner Mercenaries in Volunteer Corps

The Russian “Rosgvarda”, considered the private army of Vladimir Putin, has included in its ranks thousands of mercenaries from the private military company “Wagner”, owned by the deceased Yevgeny Prigozhin, reported focus.de, citing information from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW ).

This is an interesting fact, considering that on June 24, 2023, the Wagner group revolted in Russia and marched towards Moscow to overthrow the country’s political and military leadership. Shortly before reaching the capital, Prigozhin gave the order to stop the riot, arguing that Russians should not shed blood among themselves.

This ultimately cost Prigogine his life, whose plane was shot down a few weeks later. In December 2023, the Kremlin passed a law allowing Rosgvardia to form its own volunteer groups. The 1st Volunteer Corps is currently formed with the remaining staff from Wagner as well as other newly recruited volunteers.
