Russian President’s Press Secretary Disputes Bloomberg’s Report on Emergency Situation at Belarus Nuclear Power Plants

Bloomberg’s information about the emergency situation at nuclear power plants in Belarus in 2022 is not reliable. This was announced today, December 19, by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

According to him, he is familiar with the agency’s publication about the emergency situation at a nuclear power plant in Belarus.

“But the fact is that this cannot be called an emergency situation, because we are talking about commissioning work, this nuance is the most important. This is not an emergency situation during the operation of the station, commissioning work is being carried out there,” Peskov emphasized.

Let us remind you that Belarus has completed the construction of its first nuclear power plant in the Grodno region. It consists of two power units with a total capacity of 2400 MW. The BelNPP was built by Rosatom using Russian loan funds. Earlier, the Bloomberg agency, citing some internal documents of Rosatom, reported that in February 2022, a serious problem was discovered at the BelNPP – ion exchange resin was leaking into the first circuit of the second power unit, threatening to jam critical components.
