Russian Presidential Election 2024: Kremlin’s Strategy and Young Candidates Controversy

The Kremlin assumes that Putin will face candidates from the Russian Communist Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and the “Young People” party.

The leader of the “Just Russia” party, Sergej Mironov, has already announced that the party will support Putin.

The Kremlin expects to advance candidates who could win a predictable number of votes.

Accordingly, it was decided that candidates under the age of 50 may not be nominated for the presidential “election” of another party.

Sources say the president’s administration doesn’t want the names of younger people on “election” ballots because that would make voters think that the 70-year-old Putin is no longer as energetic as before.

The next Russian presidential “election” in Russia is scheduled for March 17, 2024.

In the summer of 2020, a “referendum” on constitutional amendments was held in Russia, in which the “zeroing” of Putin’s previous terms was approved. Thus, Putin can run for two more terms as president and rule until at least 2036.
