Russia will never back down, Russian President Vladimir Putin said today in his New Year’s address, quoted by France Press.
The Russian leader noted that in 2023 his country resolutely defended its national interests.
“We have proven time and time again that we can solve the most complex tasks and we will never back down because there is no force that can separate us,” Putin said in a televised address.
Although the president did not directly address the conflict in Ukraine, he alluded to it by expressing his appreciation for Russian soldiers, whom he called “our heroes.”
Unlike last year, this time Putin was not surrounded by people in military uniforms. In the background of this year’s address, the Kremlin was visible – something characteristic of most New Year’s addresses of the Russian leader.
In 2023, “we resolutely defended our national interests, our freedom and our security, our values,” Putin said in the address, which was first broadcast in regions of the Russian Far East where the New Year had already arrived.
The president assured that Russia, which is going through a “historic stage”, will be “even stronger” in the new year.
