Russian President Vladimir Putin Orders Significant Increase in Military Troops to Counter NATO Aggression – Latest News

TRIBUNNEWS.COM – Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a significant increase in his country’s military.

He asked for the number of Russian military troops to be increased by 170 thousand people to reach a total of 1.32 million troops when the massive invasion of the Kremlin entered its 22nd month.

Putin signed the decree in response to the ‘aggressive activities of the NATO bloc’ and special military operations in Ukraine.

This decision was issued by the Kremlin on Friday (1/12/2023) and will take effect immediately.

“In accordance with the Russian presidential decree signed on November 29 2023, the maximum number of the Russian Federation’s armed forces has been increased from 170,000 military personnel to 1,320,000 military personnel,” the defense ministry said, quoted from independent.co.uk.

The Defense Ministry said the order does not mean a significant expansion of conscription.

However, the addition of these troops will be carried out in stages.

“In this case, there are no plans to significantly increase conscription. Mobilization is not planned,” the statement read.

This decision is the second addition of troops since 2018, quoted from The Guardian.

In August 2022, Putin requested an increase in troop numbers by 137,000.

This brings the total number of military to around two million personnel, including around 1.15 million troops.

The order takes effect on January 1, 2023.
