Russian President Vladimir Putin denies involvement in Balticconnector gas pipeline rupture

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday denied that Moscow was responsible for the rupture of the Finnish-Estonian gas pipeline “Balticconnector” and called the accusations “complete nonsense”.

“This is complete nonsense,” Putin told reporters during a visit to Kyrgyzstan.

“Honestly, I didn’t even know this pipeline existed because of its small size,” he added.

Finnish President Sauli Nīniste and Finnish Prime Minister Peteri Orpo said on Tuesday that the “Balticconnector” gas pipeline connecting Finland and Estonia was most likely damaged as a result of external action, raising suspicions of Russia’s involvement. Both Finland and Estonia are investigating the incident and have urged not to rush to conclusions before the official results.

An underwater telecommunications cable connecting the two countries has also been damaged.
