Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he would discuss with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ the issue of the status of priests in the army. The head of state spoke about this at a meeting with the families of the fallen heroes at his residence in Novo-Ogarevo near Moscow.
“I will definitely talk to Patriarch Kirill. I want to understand the Church’s position on this issue. But in our country the Church is separated from the state, and if they become almost military personnel… She does not want to depend on the state,” Putin said at the meeting, broadcast on Rossiya 24.
The meeting participants told the president that the priests are in the Northern Military District zone and need a certain status in the structure of the Ministry of Defense. Putin emphasized that if the priest becomes part of the military mechanism, then other legal relations appear.
Previously, Putin promised to solve the problems with payments families of deceased SVO participants in the regions. This statement was made by the Russian leader at a meeting with the heroes’ relatives at his residence in Novo-Ogarevo near Moscow.
