Russian President Putin Meets with Wagner Leaders Committed to Fighting for Homeland

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Wagner leaders who affirmed their willingness to continue fighting for their homeland and that they are loyal supporters of the Russian president.

Peskov said, “This meeting took place in the Kremlin on June 29 and lasted about three hours. Putin invited 35 Wagner commanders, including the head of the military company, Yevgeny Prigozhin, where the events of June 24 were discussed.”

Peskov indicated that the details of this meeting are not known, but he specified the topics that were discussed, and said: “The only thing we can say is that President (Putin) gave an assessment of the company’s actions during the special military operation, as well as his assessment of the events of June 24.”

Peskov pointed out that the “Wagner” leaders confirmed that they are among the strongest supporters of the head of state and the supreme commander of the armed forces, and they also said: “They are fully prepared to continue fighting for the motherland.”

Peskov added, “Putin listened to the explanations given by Wagner’s leaders (about the events of June 24) and offered them more employment options and work options in the military field.”

Putin had confirmed “earlier that he had no doubts about the reaction of the Russian people and their support for the decisions taken by the country’s leadership regarding the events of June 24,” adding that “I had no doubts about the reactions in Dagestan and throughout the country.”

It is worth noting that the “Wagner” forces seized the headquarters of the Southern Military District in the city of Rostov-on-Don on the night of June 24, and the seizure took place after Prigozhin’s statements in which he claimed that the Russian armed forces had launched missile attacks on the “Wagner” camps despite The Russian Ministry of Defense and the Russian Federal Security Service denied this.

The armed rebellion stopped thanks to difficult negotiations led – in agreement with Putin – the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, which lasted for a long time on Saturday, June 24. As a result of the negotiations, Prigozhin agreed to leave for Belarus, and the fighters who did not participate in the rebellion were offered to sign contracts with the Ministry of Defense in exchange for None of the remaining Wagner fighters are being pursued.
