Russian President Putin Meets with Indian Foreign Minister to Discuss Progressive Development in Bilateral Relations

A meeting took place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. During the meeting, the Russian leader noted the progressive development between the two countries.

“Relations between the Russian Federation and India are developing progressively, despite all the difficulties,” conveys the words Putin official website of the Kremlin. The Russian President also noted positive trends in trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of energy, oil and coal. The President emphasized that the growth in trade turnover between Russia and India this year exceeded the growth rate of the previous year.

During the meeting, the desire of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a peaceful resolution of the situation in Ukraine was also noted, to which the Russian President responded by saying that he would keep the Indian Foreign Minister informed of events. The Russian leader also invited Modi to Russia and expressed confidence in maintaining partnership relations between the two countries regardless of the political situation after the elections in the Indian parliament.

Trade turnover between Russia and India for the current year doubled in size and reached a record $54.7 billion, according to Indian Customs. This is driven by an increase in India’s imports from Russia by $51.4 billion and an increase in exports to Russia to $3.3 billion.
