Russian Presidency Denies Involvement in Death of Wagner Group Commander, Calls West’s Statements an Absolute Lie

The Russian presidency said today, Friday, that the West’s statements about the Kremlin’s “involvement” in the death of the commander of Wagner’s special military forces, Yevgeny Prigozhin, were “an absolute lie,” while US President Joe Biden’s statements on the same matter were considered “unacceptable.”

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the West’s statements that the Kremlin might be behind Prigozhin’s death are an absolute lie, and that “there are still a few facts and the investigation will have to clarify them.”

Peskov said that the official results of the investigation into the plane crash, which was carrying Yevgeny Prigozhin and 6 of his companions, would be published.

And about whether Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend Prigozhin’s funeral, Peskov said: “We do not yet know how long the investigation procedures will take. The president has a busy schedule in general.”

The Kremlin confirmed that Putin had not met Prigozhin recently.

For his part, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said today, Friday, that US President Joe Biden’s statements about reports that Yevgeny Prigozhin was killed in a plane crash are “unacceptable,” according to Tass news agency.

On Wednesday, Biden said he was not surprised by the reports, adding that rarely does anything happen in the country that the Russian president is not behind.

For its part, the British Ministry of Defense said that the “presumed death” of Prigozhin, in a plane crash, could destabilize the Wagner Group.
