Russian police chief arrested for building small Versailles with bribes (photos / video)

The head of the State Inspectorate for Road Safety in the Stavropol Territory in Russia, Colonel Alexei Safonov, and 35 of his subordinates were detained during a special operation by the Russian Interior Ministry and the Guard, the Main Directorate of Internal Security at the Russian Interior Ministry said.

According to State Duma MP Alexander Hinstein, who is a member of the working group in the Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, the action took place on July 20 and virtually the entire leadership of the inspection in Stavropol was detained.

The shattered organized crime group has received bribes and will be held accountable for abuse of power. According to investigators, the group has been operating since 2017, and only to ensure the smooth passage of grain trucks through the Stavropol Territory, Safonov and his subordinates received bribes amounting to about 20 million rubles.

Searches were carried out in the offices and homes of detainees, and Alexander Hinstein published photos of the home of Colonel Safonov, who resembled little Versailles. The head of the inspection in Stavropol has even installed a gold toilet and sink in his bathroom.

Here is what the house of a “modest” police chief looks like:
