The post said that the pilot and his family were in Dubai in late September, and after enjoying the desert, they decided to come to the US Embassy.

Reporting from Newsweek, Tuesday, October 3 2023, the American Embassy in the UAE is in its capital, Abu Dhabi. The US also has a consulate in Dubai.

The Russian soldier appeared at the mission stating that he refused to fight and expressed his readiness to cooperate with the US.

Russia’s main intelligence agency, the FSB, is investigating the case and questioning the pilot’s colleagues,” he added.

It is unclear whether the pilot went to Dubai with the intention of defecting while there.

Spy Dossier said the move was inspired by the story of his friend Lieutenant Anton Vasiliev, said to be a fighter pilot and trainee who left Russia during the war and now lives in Los Angeles.

“He spent his free time traveling. Organizing training camps for Ukrainian soldiers and, possibly, sharing official information with representatives of the Pentagon.”

“The FSB believes that it was Anton Vasiliev who convinced Gavrichenko of the need to flee,” the post said.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s domestic affairs adviser Anton Gerashchenko said that the Russian pilot fled Moscow and wanted to cooperate with the US special services.

“There is data that the Russian security services are very disturbed by this and are now considering closing the borders to Russian pilots and officers in general, as well as their families,” Gerashchenko added.
