In the second week of the festival “Riga Jurmala”, which will take place from August 5 to 8, two outstanding musicians will perform together – Russian piano legend Mikhail Pletnetev and violinist Daniel Lozakovich, the festival organizers informed.

On Saturday, August 7, in the Grand Guild, the artists will perform a program featuring compositions by Schuman, Schubert and Frank, while on August 9, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra concert will take place in Liepaja Concert Hall “Big Amber”. music festival “Riga Jurmala”. Together with the orchestra, its artistic director and chief conductor Jurijs Temirkanovs will take the stage, but the special guest of the concert will be pianist Mikhail Pletnetev, the organizers said.

At the age of 21, Pletnetev won the Gold Medal and first place in the 1978 International Peter Tchaikovsky Competition and has been one of the most outstanding pianists in the world. Now he is also known as a prominent conductor and composer – Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet Cinderella, recorded with pianist Marta Argerich, won the Grammy Award. This will be the return of the Russian pianist to the festival “Riga Jurmala”. Together with the Russian National Orchestra, the first independent orchestra in Russian history, founded by Pletnetev in 1990, he performed in the first season of the festival in the summer of 2019.

Daniel Lozakovich made his stage debut at the age of 9 with the Moscow Virtuoso Chamber Orchestra, and has since performed with the world’s most outstanding orchestras and conductors. At the age of 15, he signed an exclusive deal with the record company Deutsche Grammophon – his Bach record album, released in 2018, reached the top of the German classical music album chart.

Pianist George Lee, who was due to perform with Daniel Lozakovich on August 5 and give a solo concert on August 7, had to cancel his participation in the festival due to the consequences of the pandemic.
