Russian peacekeepers arrive in Nagorno-Karabakh

The first Russian peacekeepers have arrived in the Nagorno-Karabakh region within the framework of the ceasefire agreement between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia, TV3 reports.

Peacekeepers control the Lachina corridor, which connects Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. 1960 Russian military personnel and 90 armored personnel carriers are involved in the peacekeeping mission in the region, according to the agreement.

The headquarters of the Russian forces will be located in the Stepanakert district of the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh, and hardened fighters with international experience have been sent from Russia.

“Staff have received special training to comply with international humanitarian law in armed conflict. Virtually all soldiers have experience in carrying out missions, ensuring and protecting humanitarian operations in the Syrian Republic, “says General Sergei Rudovsky of the Russian Army.

Meanwhile, protests continue in the Armenian capital, despite a ban on rallies in a state of war. The population was especially angry with the prime minister, who with his description confirmed the actual capitulation. In a video message to the population, the Prime Minister announced that a ceasefire so painful and incomprehensible to many people had been introduced to reduce the number of possible casualties among Armenian soldiers.

“If the war continued, there was a very high probability that Stepanakert, Martuni, Askerana would be captured, after which our second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth defense zones would be blocked, and thousands of our soldiers would be blocked!” The Prime Minister of Armenia Nicholas Pashinyan.

Such an outcome of the conflict is considered a brilliant victory for Azerbaijan, which has regained part of the territory taken over by Armenia 30 years ago.

“Today we are talking about future activities with our Russian colleagues. There is a timetable for the withdrawal of Armenian forces from our lands. By the end of this month, they must leave all the occupied lands! ” said the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

Azerbaijani troops have occupied Shushu, the second largest city in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as part of the Nagorno-Karabakh security buffer zone, including its southern part, which provided the border with Iran. In the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, intense fighting resumed on September 27, claiming hundreds of lives.
