351 deputies voted in favor of the document submitted by the Communists, 16 voted against and one abstained.
At the same time, deputies considered another similar document, proposed by the ruling United Russia party, which provided that parliament would consult with the Foreign Ministry before addressing the president.
However, only 3,010 deputies voted in favor of the document, and thus the declaration proposed by the Communists on the recognition of the so-called Donetsk and Lugansk republics will be sent to Putin immediately.
In 2014, after the occupation of the Crimean peninsula by Ukraine and the subsequent annexation, Russia invaded mainland Ukraine, occupying large areas of the Donbass.
