The Pentagon reported that the activity of the Russian paramilitary group “Wagner” has effectively ended with the death of its leader Yevgeny Prigozhin.
“I think the more important question is that “Wagner” is practically finished“, Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder said when asked if he thought the arms deal between Wagner and North Korea was over, Anadolu Agency reported.
“I think it’s pretty safethat there were no intensive negotiations,” Ryder said, specifically referring to potential agreements between PMC Wagner and Pyongyang. The general expressed the opinion that the attention, in connection with the arms deals, rather, it should fall on the Kremlinbecause during its existence, “Wagner” worked specifically for the Russian government.
According to him, the group was the most powerful fighting force that Russia had in Ukraine, but now it has almost disappeared from the battlefield.
“The broader issue here is that Moscow is looking to autocratic regimes like the one in North Korea and the regime of the ayatollahs in Iran, trying to get additional ammunition or weapons,” the Pentagon spokesman added.
