Russian Opposition Politician Alexei Navalny’s Letters Reveal Concerns About Trump’s Potential Return to Power

Recently came the shock news that the Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny has died. The death was confirmed by Russian prison authorities.

The New York Times has gained access to several letters written by Kremlin critic Navalny in the last months of his life.

In a letter addressed to Evgeny Feldman, Navalny writes that Donald Trump’s plans for his possible second term as president of the United States were “very frightening”, writes the newspaper.

– Doesn’t this worry the Democrats?

Already in July, he writes another letter, in which he describes to an acquaintance that “no one can understand life in Russian prisons without having been here themselves”, and added that it is not recommended for anyone.

– If they are asked to give you caviar tomorrow, then you will get caviar for lunch. If they’re told to strangle you in the cell, that’s what they do, he must have written.

Navalny is said to have been particularly concerned that Trump would return to power if Joe Biden were to experience major health problems.

– This seems obvious, doesn’t this worry the Democrats?

In another letter to Feldman, dated December 3, Navalny is again concerned about Trump, making it clear in the letter that he has nothing left for the former president.

Complained about book access

Three days later, Navalny disappears from the prison he was in outside of Moscow. Only on 25 December could his lawyers confirm that he had been found again, this time in the IK-3 penal camp in the Jamal-Nenets district.

In this prison, Navalnjy’s opportunities for communication with the outside world were also severely limited.

Journalist Sergei Parkhomenko told the Times that he received a letter from Navalny on February 13, just days before his death was made public. In the letter, he writes, among other things, that he has poor access to books in the prison camp.

Donald Trump has not responded to the criticism against him that appears in the letters, writes Business Insider.

– We are a nation on the way down!

In a post on Truth Social, the former president apparently chose to draw a parallel between Russia’s treatment of Navalny and the many court cases he himself is currently in the middle of.

– Alexei Navalny’s sudden death has made me more and more aware of what is happening in our country. It’s a slow, steady progression, with dishonest, radical left politicians, prosecutors and judges leading us down a path to destruction. Open borders, rigged elections and grossly unfair courtroom decisions are DESTROYING AMERICA. WE ARE A NATION ON THE DOWN, A FAILING NATION! raged Trump on his social medium, Truth Social.

– Et offer for Putin

Joe Biden, in addition to a number of other world leaders, has sent condolences to Navalny’s staff and his supporters.

– We don’t know exactly what happened. There is no doubt that he was a victim of Putin and his thugs, Biden said after the death became known.

Biden also spoke about the imprisonment of Navalny, saying that Putin had Navalny poisoned, imprisoned and prosecuted on trumped-up charges.

– All that did not stop him from speaking loudly about Putin’s lies. He was imprisoned, and was a powerful voice for the truth. It’s pretty amazing when you think about it.

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said early on that he was “shaken” by the reports about Alexei Navalny’s death and that all the facts must be put on the table.

Russia has some very serious questions they must answer, he says in a statement.

And added:

– I am very sad and worried.
