“The clinical results indicate poisoning by a substance from the group of cholinesterase inhibitors,” he said in a statement.

The specific poison “has not yet been identified and a new large-scale analysis has been launched,” he warns.

“The outcome of the disease remains uncertain” and long-term sequelae, “particularly in the field of the nervous system, cannot be ruled out at this stage,” adds the Berlin establishment, one of the most famous in the world.

Mr. Navalny was evacuated to Berlin on Saturday morning in a private jet chartered by a German NGO, after a day of tug-of-war between his family and Russian doctors, who initially said his condition was too unstable , before giving the green light.

Mr. Navalny, 44, “is in an intensive care unit and he is still in an artificial coma”, says the hospital, “his state of health is serious, but his life is not in danger”.

The Berlin doctors examined the patient “extensively”.

The number one opponent of Vladimir Putin’s regime is being treated with an antidote, says the hospital.

Russian doctors who took care of him in Siberia until Saturday assured them that they had not found any trace of poisoning.
