“Late in the evening, PERN automation systems detected a depressurization of the Druzhba pipeline on one of the two stretches of the western section of the pipeline, approximately 70 kilometers from Plock. This is the main route through which crude oil enters Germany. At the moment, the reasons are unknown: deliveries on the damaged line have been interrupted. PERN emergency services and state firefighters immediately rushed to the scene to assess the situation, secure the area and begin rescue operations, PERN said. The main recipient of Russian oil in Germany is the Schwedt refinery with a capacity of nearly 12 million tons per year, which until recently was controlled by Rosneft. However, in mid-September, the German Ministry of Economy and Climate transferred Rosneft Deutschland GmbH (RDG) and RN Refining & Marketing GmbH (RNRM), which belong to Rosneft, to the trust management of the Federal Network Agency. Germany has transferred shares in three refineries in the country. The ministry motivated the decision by the fact that service providers refuse to work with the Russian owner’s businesses and the work of strategic plants was threatened. In December, EU countries will stop importing oil from Russia, including through the Druzhba pipeline. And the Polish port of Gdansk will become the most efficient and cost-effective route for the delivery of alternative raw materials. However, in Warsaw, German authorities have repeatedly warned that they will not work with companies owned by Rosneft.
Previously, the Polish operator has not recorded any cases of depressurization at the Druzhba pipeline.
