The ban on the import of Russian oil in our country is a really important moment – we are breaking a dependency. This was commented on in the program “Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov” on Nova TV by former Minister of Economy Lachezar Borisov.
“I remember an analysis of mine from the fall of 2022, which I then repeated in February 2023, when the Bulgarian economy was becoming much more dependent on the Russian Federation in terms of trade and oil imports. There were periods when the growth was 200 percent. We are talking about times the growth and times greater dependence. So, from this point of view, certainly thanks to the National Assembly, we achieved success”, commented Borisov.
When asked why fuel prices were so high a year and a half ago, the former economy minister explained the following:
“Within a year, several successive economic ministers implemented a law passed by the National Assembly. They had to make the necessary corrections in this bill so that the state could collect in some form the difference that was accumulating in the Russian company. Some of the analyzes of experts point to a leakage from the Bulgarian economy of 3 to 6 billion dollars”.
He commented on whether the Lukoil refinery in Burgas will be sold:
“At some point it will be a logical outcome that was already hinted at.” The headquarters of our refinery in Switzerland made the corresponding changes to the boards. We have to be careful, we already have a law related to the monitoring of foreign investments. It is based on a European regulation, so we have to do a screening. I don’t expect serious shocks in the market”, says Lachezar Bogdanov.
