Earlier, Medvedev stated that Ukraine “does not exist a state” and it “will disappear, because no one needs it,” and also threatened Poland with “disappearance.”
Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Medvedev’s words, told reporters that he sees in Moldova “a drift towards absorption by Romania” and “a deliberate curtailment of its own sovereignty,” the Russian “Interfax” . He added that Moldova “is rapidly trying to become a country unfriendly to Russia,” and its leadership is “rapidly drifting in the direction of Russophobia, which is already well known to us.”
In turn, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador to Moldova on April 28.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration will not comment on the absolutely unacceptable language of the statements made by some Russian officials today, but emphasizes the fact that the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova, Oleg Vasnetsov, will be summoned to the Ministry to give explanations about the statements directed against our countries”, – the department said in a statement.
On February 9, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at a special meeting of the European Council, said that Ukrainian intelligence had intercepted a detailed plan of the Russian Federation to destabilize the situation in Moldova. He noted that he warned Sanda about this, and said: the Ukrainian authorities saw in this plan the actions that the Russian Federation was trying to take against Ukraine.
