The Russian attack is heating up. After bombarding the west, Now Russia carry out attacks in eastern Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the ‘battle of Donbas’ was taking place in the middle of this month. Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak said that this battle marked the ‘second phase’ of the war.
Zelensky said Ukrainians would fight in self-defence, no matter how many Russian troops came there.
Russia has also shifted the focus of its war to eastern Ukraine, having suffered a setback near the capital Kyiv.
Ukraine’s top security official said Russian troops were trying to break through almost the entire front line in the Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv regions.
According to the Ukrainian government, Russian attacks on cities across the country have killed at least 17 people.
Seven people were killed when a missile hit the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, which has not been hit so far.
The United Nations reports that more than 4.9 million Ukrainians have now fled the country as a result of the war.
Now, Ukrainian authorities admit that Russian troops have captured and controlled a number of villages in the east.
As reported by AFP, Wednesday (27/4/2022), Moscow earlier this month withdrew its troops from the area around the capital Kiev and focused its military efforts on capturing Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine.
