A report in a Russian newspaper says that Turkey is betting on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, believing at the same time that the Gaza Strip cannot be governed without the participation of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which Israel and the United States want to dismantle.
A report published by the Russian newspaper “Nezavisimaya” stated that Turkey intends to discuss the post-war structure in the Gaza Strip with the leadership of the UAE on the sidelines of the climate conference (COP 28), which began in Dubai on November 30.
The author of the report, Igor Subbotin, quoted from the Turkish newspaper (Hurriyet), said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan went to the Emirates to attend the United Nations climate summit, and that he is promoting a special initiative to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that contradicts the plans of America and Israel, adding that Ankara stands on the side of the Palestinians. It insists that the formula of the political system without the participation of Hamas will have no chance of success.
Guarantor countries for each party
The report attributed Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to saying that they are proposing that some countries in the region, including Turkey, become guarantors of Palestine, and other countries become guarantors of Israel. These countries will have to bear responsibility for implementing the terms of the settlement, noting that the initiative is still under preparation, and its main provisions will be presented to a wider audience.
For his part, Erdogan publicly emphasized that Gaza should become part of the independent Palestinian state that should be established after the end of the war. In one of his speeches, Erdogan said, “We want to see Gaza as a peaceful region and part of an independent Palestinian state according to the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. We will support formulas that will revive peace and tranquility in the region.”
A challenge to America and Israel
The writer commented that this constitutes a direct challenge to the American concept, which stipulates that the countries of the Arab world, including members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, will take over the administration of Gaza after the war, knowing that this idea is supported by major research centers in Israel.
Subbotin said that Turkish rhetoric has become sharper in recent months. Last Wednesday, Erdogan described Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “thug.”
During his speech before the Turkish Parliament, Erdogan said that since October 7, “our brothers and sisters in Gaza have been subjected to the most horrific attacks in human history, as their mosques were bombed, their schools were turned into rubble, and refugee camps became the target of deliberate attacks. Accordingly, Netanyahu wrote his name down.” In history, like the butcher of Gaza.
