Details: Petrovsky, who lived in Finland under the name Vojislav Torden, was visited by consular officers of the Russian embassy in Helsinki on Monday. The embassy said that “during the meeting, Torden said that he had no complaints about the conditions of detention and the circumstances of detention, and expressed his wish for his speedy return to Russia.”

They added that “they are taking all possible measures to protect the legitimate interests of a Russian citizen.”

Background:

The Finnish media reported on Jan Petrovsky’s arrest in Finland last week. The man was included in the EU and US sanctions list for actions that threaten the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine and the country’s security. Petrovsky, who lived in Norway for several years as a youth, also fought in the war in Syria as part of a far-right group fighting for the regime of President Bashar al-Assad. Norway deported the man to Russia in 2016 because he was considered a security risk. Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine prepares materials for Petrovsky’s extradition. The Russian appears in the investigation of the Security Service of Ukraine, according to which, in 2014, he fought against Ukraine as part of the so-called “Rusich” sabotage and assault reconnaissance group.
