He points out that the Russian Baltic Sea fleet is, of course, large and powerful, but it must be understood that this fleet is not an opponent of the NATO fleets that are stationed in the Baltic Sea.

“Here we have the German Navy, we have the Polish Navy, we have the Finnish Navy and soon, I really hope, the Swedish Navy,” the military expert enumerates.

Rajev explains that the Latvian naval forces are not numerically large and have powerful platforms, but the NATO naval forces are very strong and with the platforms they have in the Baltic Sea, they can dominate and bring to zero any actions of the Russian Baltic fleet: “If, of course , it will all be done skillfully and in a timely manner.”

The military expert emphasizes that therefore one should not worry about their activities in the Baltic Sea. Just as one should not exaggerate the influence of the “Wagner” unit.

“Yes, of course, they should be taken into account, yes, of course, you should know what they are doing, but neither of them can play any decisive role and they cannot achieve any decisive results,” he emphasized.

It has already been reported that the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced on Wednesday the start of naval maneuvers in the Baltic Sea.

From August 2, naval exercises “Ocean Shield – 2023” will be held in the Baltic Sea under the leadership of Admiral Nikolay Yevmenov, Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Forces, the ministry said in a statement.

30 warships and cutters, 20 supply ships, 30 aircraft of the Russian Naval Aviation and Air and Space Forces and about 6,000 soldiers will take part in the maneuvers, the statement said.

“During the training, it is planned to check the readiness of the Navy to defend the national interests of the Russian Federation in an operationally important area and the coordination of the work of the headquarters of different levels in the management of the forces,” the ministry stated.

“In total, it is planned to conduct more than 200 combat exercises, including practical use of weapons,” the ministry said.
