The Russian football team will play a match against a European country for the first time since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the AP reports. On March 21, the Russian team will play a friendly international match against European Championship participant Serbia in the Dynamo Moscow stadium.
UEFA has banned all Russian teams and national teams from European competitions, but this does not apply to friendlies. According to AP, UEFA has now given permission for this.
In the past two years, the Russians mainly played against countries from Africa, Asia and Cuba. The last European opponent in an official match was Croatia in 2021. A match against Bosnia and Herzegovina was planned at the end of 2022, but that match was canceled after protests from some Bosnian players.
