Russian ‘Moskvich’ Production Fail: Cars from China Under JAC Brand

The production of Moskvich is nominal, since all cars are supplied from China under the JAC brand; in Moscow they only have a nameplate glued on them.

The so-called “production” of Chinese cars under the Moskvich brand at the former Renault plant in Moscow, which became the property of the Russian authorities, turned out to be a complete failure, they write rosSMI.

“Production” is nominal, since all cars are supplied from China under the JAC brand; in Moscow they are only labeled with the “Moskvich” nameplate. According to this scheme, the Russians supplied 31 thousand cars to the market.

However, only less than half of them were sold – only 15.3 thousand cars. As a result, the plant’s losses for the year jumped 3.6 times, reaching 8.6 billion rubles. Now the debts will have to be covered at someone else’s expense, since there is no demand for cars.

One of the reasons for the failure was the high price of the cars, which was twice the cost of the original from China.

The Russians decided to increase the price out of the blue, without any economic prerequisites. Despite attempts to sell complete copies of Chinese cars as Russian ones, demand for them was insufficient to ensure profitability.

People on social networks are mocking Russia’s failure in the automotive industry, as attempts to get rich from the “reincarnation” of Soviet brands have proven unviable.

Earlier, the Russian AvtoVAZ complained about serious financial and technological Problems due to Western sanctions.
