Power stations in western and central Ukraine have again been damaged by Russian missiles and drones. Among other things, a hydroelectric power station on the Dniester River was hit. According to the Ukrainian army, at least ten regions have been hit by almost a hundred drones and missiles.
At the end of last week, Russia launched a first series of attacks on the electricity grid in Zaporizhia. The largest hydroelectric power station there was attacked. More attacks followed later. In Kharkiv alone, 700,000 people are regularly without power.
Power failure
News agency AP reports that five people have been injured in the region of the city of Dnipro, including a 5-year-old girl. The electricity network in at least six regions has been severely damaged. Network operator Ukrenergo writes on Telegram that the power supply has been forced to be disconnected in several places.
Ukraine’s largest private power plant, DTEK, reports that three thermal power plants have been damaged to the point that they can only generate half of normal capacity. Russia’s attacks also appear to be becoming increasingly effective, according to DTEK.
In addition to power stations, oil and gas installations have also come under fire, reports the Ukrainian state gas company Naftogaz.
Following the latest attacks, Ukrainian President Zelensky is once again calling on Western countries to “respond quickly and decisively to the Russian bombing” by sending additional anti-aircraft guns.
