Russian missiles hit a restaurant in the center of Kramatorsk on Tuesday, killing at least two people and injuring 22, Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klimenko announced.
“Two people were killed and 22 injured, including a child. A restaurant and several houses were destroyed,” said Klimenko, adding that several more people could be buried in the ruins.
The head of the military administration of Ukraine’s Donetsk region, Pavlo Kirilenko, previously reported that “two rockets were fired at Kramatorsk (..), at a catering establishment in the center of the city, where a large number of civilians were located.”
An AFP journalist at the scene observed police, ambulances, soldiers and the mayor of the city outside the restaurant “Ria Pizza”, where a crowd of people had gathered. One of the cooks, 32-year-old Ruslan, said there were quite a few people in the restaurant at the time of the impact, adding that he was lucky.
Kramatorsk, home to about 150,000 people before the war, is about 30 kilometers from the front line.
