11 are said to have been killed after a Russian attack in eastern Ukraine’s Pokrovsk
11 people are said to have been killed in a Russian missile attack on the city of Pokrovsk, in eastern Ukraine.
Five of the dead are said to be children.
Governor Vadym Filashkin for the Donetsk region confirms this in a message on Telegram Saturday.
– These are the consequences of the attack on the Pokrovsk district, writes the governor on Telegram, according to Reuters.
Pokrovsk is located on Ukrainian territory, about 80 kilometers northwest of the Russian-controlled Donetsk region.
Russian forces previously launched an attack against Pokrovsk on the night of January 6, writes the Ukrainian channel Ukrinform. They are said to have hit an administrative building, among other things.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has sent his condolences to those affected via his own channel on Telegram, and writes that the attacks will have consequences.
– The attack from the Russians was simply on ordinary residential buildings, on private houses, he writes.
As of now, it is known that more than ten people have died, and unfortunately among them are children, writes Zelenskyj further.
The Russian forces are said to have used S-300 missiles in the attack, according to Governor Filashkin. This is a type of anti-aircraft missile that can also be used against targets on the ground.
