Two people were killed in a Russian missile attack near the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. The two who died were a man and his four-year-old son.
Reported by AFP, Sunday (11/8/2024), explosions occurred on Saturday night in central and eastern Kyiv. AFP journalists noted that the explosion occurred when the Ukrainian air force said two Russian missiles were heading for the city.
AFP reporters said that air raid sirens sounded in the capital and that at least two lights were seen in the night sky.

The Kyiv military administration said in a statement on Telegram that the city’s air defense system had been activated. Ukraine’s air force said five more areas were attacked by drones.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine on Telegram, fragments of missiles fell on residential buildings in Brovary district, which is next to Kyiv.
A 35-year-old man and his four-year-old son were found dead in the rubble of a building during a search and rescue operation. At the same time three others were seriously injured.
Concerns have been growing among many Ukrainians in recent days that Moscow could launch airstrikes in response to Kyiv’s latest attacks on territory of Russia.
Ukraine has been regularly hit by deadly Russian airstrikes from missiles and drones.
Kyiv has asked its Western allies to provide more air defense systems.
Meanwhile on the Russian side, Kursk regional governor Alexei Smirnov said 13 people were injured in the city of Kursk, including two seriously, when debris from a Ukrainian missile fell on a building overnight .
