Kramatorsk –
Missiles Russia hit a restaurant in Kramatorsk, Ukraine east. At least three people died and more than 40 were injured in the attack.
Reported by AFP, Wednesday (28/6/2023), Ukrainian police said Russia fired two missiles into the city of Kramatorsk.
“The bodies of three people, including a minor born in 2008, have been recovered from the rubble. Among the injured is a child born in 2022,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine said on Telegram.
Ukraine’s emergency services said that 42 people were injured in the attack which destroyed the city’s popular Ria Pizza restaurant.
“There were a lot of people there — there were children under the rubble,” said Yevgen, who was eating with two friends.
“We were just about to leave but one of his friends is now under the rubble,” he added to AFP after the blast.
A crowd quickly gathered at the site, where the fire continued to burn as soldiers and rescue workers searched for other victims.
Donetsk governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said two Russian rockets had hit the city once home to 150,000 people, one of the largest still under Ukrainian control in the east of the besieged country.
Meanwhile, a resident named Natalia said through tears that her half-sister Nikita (23) was near the pizza oven at the restaurant.
“They couldn’t get him out, he was covered in debris,” he said.
Several nearby buildings were also damaged in attacks on the city, which has been a frequent Russian target since its invasion in February 2022.
Kramatorsk was located about 30 kilometers (18 miles) from the front line.
“People told me they heard airplanes, there was a hiss and then explosions,” said a 19-year-old Ukrainian soldier who gave his combat name “Ghost” and was nearby when the attack occurred.
He quickly entered the restaurant to help save the workers.
“A girl is trapped, injured. They haven’t been able to get her out.”
