Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Issues Arrest Warrant for US Senator Lindsey Graham over Ukraine Comments

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia issued a Monday warrant against the United States Senator Lindsey Graham after comments he made regarding the war in Ukraine.

In an edited video of his Friday meeting with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy which was released by the Ukrainian presidency, Graham stressed that “the Russians are dying” and referred to US military assistance to the country as “the best money we have spent“.

Although Graham apparently made his comments in different parts of the conversationthe short video released by the Ukrainian presidential office placed them side by side, which unleashed the annoyance of Moscow.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday that “It is difficult to imagine a greater shame for the country to have this type of senators”.

The Investigative Commission of Russia, the country’s main criminal investigation agency, has taken steps to open a criminal investigation to Grahamand the Home Office subsequently issued a warrant for his arrest.

Graham, of the Republican Party, is one of more than 200 members of the United States Congress who were banned from entering Russia by Moscow last year.

Graham posted on Twitter that “Knowing that my commitment to Ukraine has unleashed the wrath of the Putin regime causes me immense joyreferring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I will continue to support and defend the freedom of Ukraine until the last Russian soldier has been expelled from Ukrainian territory,” he tweeted. “The arrest warrant issued against me by Putin’s corrupt and immoral government will be a medal of honor.“.
