The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended that Russians avoid traveling to the Middle East due to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. A message about this appeared on October 20 on the Foreign Ministry website.
“The situation in the Middle East is heating up. Shelling of Israeli territory, rocket and bomb attacks on the northern and other areas of the Gaza Strip, and armed incidents in the Blue Line area between Lebanon and Israel continue. The number of victims and wounded is growing. Massive protests are taking place all over the world. In this regard, we strongly recommend that citizens of the Russian Federation refrain from traveling to the region, especially to Israel, Lebanon, Jordan and the Palestinian territories,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The department added that if Russians are already in these countries, they should “observe maximum caution and increased personal security measures, avoid areas of clashes and risk,” and also follow the recommendations of local authorities and messages from Russian diplomatic missions.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation recommended Russians should refrain from traveling to the Middle East almost two weeks after the start of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Soon after the start of the war, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reportedthat Russian airlines continue to operate flights from Israel to Russia.
The Russian Embassy in Israel reported on October 19 that 19 Russian citizens who also had Israeli citizenship were killed during the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Seven Russian citizens are missing, two Russians are being held hostage by Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
