MOSCOW – Invasion to Ukraine and the conflict with NATO has led to a dramatic increase in Russian industrial growth in recent years. In addition, Russian arms exports to other countries also support this trend.
The Minister of Trade and Industry of Russia Denis Manturov revealed that the Russian military industry can use more than 16,000 specialized workers. However, he believes he will still succeed in increasing the production of certain weapons.
“Since the beginning of this year, for many types of weapons and special equipment, more have been produced than during the whole last year,” Manturov told a conference in Nizhny Novgorod. RT.
“Talking about weapons, we are now reaching a level where deliveries in just one month exceed last year’s total orders,” he added.
Manturov claims all defense companies are operating at an unprecedented level. However, the expanded capabilities have resulted in a labor shortage.
“In total, taking into account the deployed capacities, we need more than 16,000 specialists only for organizations ensuring the supply of the most popular types of special weapons and equipment,” said Manturov also a deputy prime minister.
“We need an integrated approach here,” he said, urging governors to engage employment services and human resources specialists, as well as offer university graduates incentives to work in the defense industry.
In the Volga Federal District alone, 106 companies are receiving subsidies to expand and accelerate the production of weapons, equipment and ammunition, while dozens of other contracts are being worked out.
The Russian military industry has stepped up its activities to support military operations in Ukraine. The US and its allies have shipped more than $100 billion worth of weapons, equipment and ammunition to Kiev, while insisting they are not parties to the conflict. The West is also working to increase military production, with little success so far.
Nizhny Novgorod, known as the center of industry during the Soviet Union era, is located on the Volga river about halfway between Moscow and Kazan. One of the major industrial companies in the 1.2 million community is NMSZ, a subsidiary of Almaz-Antey which produces canister artillery and ammunition.
