Crimea –
Helicopter Russian military falls on the Crimean peninsula. As a result, 2 pilots died.
Reported ReutersSaturday (13/5/2023), the Russian Ministry of Defense said the accident occurred because the helicopter engine was not functioning as usual, according to a news agency report TASS.
The accident occurred at 15:42 local time. The helicopter crashed during a training flight.
Russian authorities confirmed that the Mi-28 helicopter flew unarmed. An investigation is now open into the cause of the crash.
It is known that Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014. The peninsula is internationally recognized as part of Ukraine. The Ukrainian government has promised to take Crimea back.
Military sites and fuel depots in Crimea have been targeted by drone attacks several times since Russia invaded Ukraine last February, including two weeks ago when an oil storage facility in Sevastopol was targeted.
