MOSCOW (AFP) – Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of Russian mercenary group Wagner Group, said today he had received “commitments” from the Russian military after he threatened to pull frontline troops out of Bakhmut Provides more ammo.
Prigozin, who has slammed Russia’s military chief over the situation in Bakhmut, the focus of fierce fighting between Ukrainian and Moscow forces, said today: “They are committed to providing all the ammunition and weapons we need to continue our operations.”
He said they had been assured that “everything that the fighters around Bahemut need will be met”.
Prigozin’s Wagner Group spearheaded Russia’s grueling months-long assault on Bakhmut, nearly capturing the city in the longest and bloodiest battle of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
At one point on the 5th, Prigozin threatened, “I will withdraw Wagner’s troops from Bahemut, because in the absence of ammunition, they will face senseless deaths.” He also said at the time that he was awaiting orders to evacuate Bahemut.
