At present, about 700 mercenaries of the Russian terrorist organization Wagner Group have arrived in Belarus, and some of them will perform the function of “irritating” Poland and other NATO and EU member countries. Andrey Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, said this on the air of the telethon.
“Now, despite the reports of several columns that are already coming and going, we are talking about hundreds of people – 500-700 militants,” Yusov said in response to a question about how many Wagnerites have already reached Belarus.
According to him, the mercenaries will be in Belarus “in the status of people on which the two dictators have agreed among themselves.”
Yusov noted that some of these 500-700 people will indeed be instructors. The Wagnerites will train the Belarusian army, and later, perhaps, they will train new units of the mobilized Russians.
“And some will be publicly and consciously involved, in particular, in unnerving Poland, other member countries of the Alliance and the European Union,” said the representative of the GUR.
He noted that these mercenaries do not pose any threat to the EU and NATO countries, especially since they enter Belarus disarmed, and in a disarmed state they mostly leave the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
Yusov added that Ukraine is monitoring the situation, but the arrival of the Wagnerites in Belarus does not change the security situation in any way.
