A letter from Cersanit to the Yale School of Business has recently arrived in which the company’s management explains that she shouldn’t be there anymore on the so-called leaves of shame or as YSB calls it in the Digging in list. These are the companies that are completely unresponsive to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and treat it as “business as usual”, without changing anything in their activities on Russian soil. However, this can be interpreted in some cases as companies that have invested too much money in Russia to now be able to exit that market without any problems for the entire organization.
We asked Cersanit for a comment to no avail, but we get it in Business Inside in a roundabout way, because from Yale. It turns out that the Polish bathroom equipment manufacturer, controlled by billionaire Michał Sołowow, is moving to the list of less shame, which is “time buyers” according to Yale terminology. There are companies that have decided to suspend further investments, i.e. they continue to operate, but without new investments and development, and sometimes without advertising in the state media. In this way, Cersanit does the same as another Polish brand – Polpharma.
“On February 24, 2022, Cersanit immediately informed its companies registered in Russia about the suspension of all new investments (planned and in progress). The total value of these investments is EUR 83 million“- informs the company.

The project of rebuilding the production of acrylic bathtubs in the existing plant was suspended in the same town. Originally scheduled for completion in mid-2022.
According to the company, the total cost of the investment is PLN 27 million (EUR 6 million), and the current expenditure has amounted to PLN 8 million (EUR 1.7 million).
We would also like to add that due to the safety of our employees at the Ukrainian production plant in Nowa Hrad Wołyński, the company suspended its operations and sales there, while still paying employees full salaries (total cost of almost $ 1 million per month). We also provided accommodation and full financial support to our Ukrainian employees and their families who decided to seek shelter in Poland

Cersanit also said that circumstances forced the company to suspend investments in the Ukrainian city of Nowohrad Wołyński (construction of a new line for the production of ceramic tiles). The amount of CAPEX planned for this project was approximately PLN 80 million (EUR 17.16 million) i it would be the largest project in Ukraine since the construction of the power plant. Completion was originally scheduled for May 2022.
