Russian Lancet Drones Evade Ukrainian Equipment Protection, Business Insider Reports

Updated Lancet drones have the ability to bypass the protection of Ukrainian equipment, detonating ammunition at a certain distance and releasing a “shock core” towards the vehicle, Business Insider reports.

“Apparently, this was not an accident. The warheads of the latest Lancet drones detonate in the air, releasing an impact core towards the target,” the publication writes.

Business Insider notes that the new drones appear to be equipped with lidar technology, which includes a laser rangefinder from two optical cameras. It is also indicated that due to the absence of detonation upon contact, the risk of getting stuck in the protection or being hit by additional means of protecting the equipment is reduced.

As Business Insider points out, Lancet models are often improved, increasing their range and impact power.

“Russian Lancet drones have become a scourge on the battlefield in Ukraine and are constantly improving their range and capabilities,” states the article, excerpts from which are cited by TASS.

Let us remind you: the Lancet drone is produced by ZALA Aero (part of the Kalashnikov concern of Rostec). It is equipped with several types of guidance systems and a television communication channel through which an image of the target is transmitted to the operator. The loitering munition is capable of hitting targets within a radius of up to 40 km, its maximum take-off weight is 12 kg.
