WAR IN UKRAINE – Journalist Marina Ovsiannikova, famous for having interrupted the newspaper of a Russian state channel with a poster against the offensive in Ukraine, was sentenced this Thursday, July 28 to a fine for having again denounced the conflict .

A Moscow court fined him 50,000 rubles (nearly 800 euros) for “discredit” of the Russian armed forces, noted an AFP journalist on the spot, an offense introduced at the beginning of March to stifle criticism.

He was criticized for saying that the operation in Ukraine was a « crime » speaking to journalists, on July 13, during a hearing concerning an imprisoned opponent, Ilia Iachine. Four days later, the 44-year-old journalist was briefly arrested in the Moscow region.

An opposition figure who is not unanimous

Marina Ovsiannikova became famous in mid-March after appearing, in full newspaper, on the set of a pro-Kremlin television channel for which she worked. During her speech, she carried a placard denouncing the offensive in Ukraine and the “propaganda” power-controlled media with the following message: “No to war. Don’t believe the propaganda. We lie to you here “. Briefly detained in the process, she was released with a fine to pay.
