Pentagon leaks keep revealing new, previously unknown aspects of the war in Ukraine. THE Washington Post, who paid particular attention to these documentsexplains that according to them, Russia is testing a system intended to jam the internet made available to Ukraine via the Starlink satellite network de SpaceX.
This quickly became crucial for the Ukrainian civilian populations, to whom it guarantees a connection to the network of networks despite the Russian attacks. But much to Elon Musk’s chagrin, Starlink is also vital to troops in kyiv, allowing them technological action and the coordination of networked action.
It is therefore a target of choice for Moscow, which, for months, seems to be working on a weapon to jam the communications of the satellite network. 25 days of testing would have already taken place in September 2022.
Appointed “Tobol”according to documents consulted by the American daily, this electronic warfare tool was initially designed to protect communications from Russian satellites, before seeing its misuse for offensive purposes.
7 stations in Russia
According to analyzesthere would exist 7 stations linked to the Tobol system on Russian soil, all located in the immediate vicinity of places dedicated to guiding the country’s satellites. Three could have been used to counter Ukrainian communications, one in the enclave of Kaliningrad, the other near Moscow and the third in occupied Crimea.
A priori, and as detailed in the Washington PostTobol was designed to jam communications between a satellite(s) and the receiver(s) on the ground, perhaps by adding a parasitic signal to the one being transmitted.
