Russian hockey player got caught on cocaine. He will have to save his career in America – Hockey News

The International Ice Hockey Federation has disqualified Ilya Altybarmakyan and Maria Tyugankina for violating anti-doping rules, the IIHF website reports.

IN doping test 19-year-old Altybarmakyan, who played for SKA-1946 last season, was found to have traces of cocaine in the MHL. The player was suspended for four years, he refused to showdown doping tests B.

19-year-old Tyugankina, who stands for Agidel, passed a positive doping test on furosemide. However, the athlete was able to prove that the drug entered the body with a product, in the annotations to which the prohibited substance was not indicated. Therefore, the time of her disqualification was eight months, and it was counted from January 2020.

The 19-year-old hockey player is the younger brother of the famous striker Andrei Altybarmakyan, who played for SKA and Sochi, and this offseason he signed a contract with Chicago.

Ilya was born in St. Petersburg, played in the SKA system, spent the last two seasons in the MHL. In winter, the St. Petersburg club terminated the contract with him for disciplinary reasons, since then there has been no news about his fate.

Unlike his older brother, Ilya was not drafted in the NHL, he did not play in the youth team of his year.

Starting next year, a new World Anti-Doping Code comes into force, which significantly mitigates the punishment for athletes for using cocaine. According to his rules, Altybarmakyan most likely got off with only three months of disqualification. Now his career was in jeopardy.

The only digestible option for Ilya is to follow his brother to North America, the hockey leagues of which are not under the jurisdiction of WADA.
