MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Russian Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control Service (Rosseljoznadzor) and the respective Brazilian control body, exchanged information on the measures necessary to supply Russia with soybeans, the Russian entity reported.

Brazil annually supplies Russia approximately one million tons of soy. According to Rosseljoznadzor, in the last two years 600,000 tons of this product with a high glyphosate content (herbicide) were detected and Brazil was informed that supplies could be temporarily prohibited.

In the consultations held on February 3 to examine the situation, the deputy director of Rosseljoznadzor Antón Karmazin, and the assistant secretary of Agricultural Defense in Brazil, Marcio Rezende Evaristo Carlos participated.

The Brazilian official was informed of the need to develop a system that would allow Russia to supply safe soybeans, which would meet all the requirements of current Russian legislation.

“The parties will meet again next week to discuss the measures that Brazil will adopt to export safe soybeans to Russia,” he concluded.
