At the end of 2023, GPS signal disturbances were observed in the Baltic Sea region, hindering the communication of air and sea traffic participants. Russia is blamed for the disturbances. But nothing is over. Russia’s targeted GPS signal jamming is still being observed. We contacted an anonymous open source and data analysis (OSINT) investigator and data analyst who goes by the pseudonym Marcus Johnson. He claims to have uncovered detailed information and some probabilities about how Russia is jamming the GPS signal in the Baltic Sea countries. Officials and media of several countries have referred to his findings.
Johnson writes in “Apollo.lv”: “I believe that Russia is using a GPS jammer that affects a large number of aircraft in the South Baltic. It happens when it is turned on. It has been active since December 15, 2023.”
By collecting flight data, the researcher was initially able to identify three suspected locations where the interference could have occurred.
