Russian Goaltender Ilya Sorokin Signs Eight-Year Contract with New York Islanders

TASS, July 2. Russian goaltender Ilya Sorokin has signed a new eight-year contract with the National Hockey League (NHL) New York Islanders. The player’s agent Dan Milstein made the announcement on Twitter on Saturday.

Sorokin’s previous contract with the Islanders ran until the end of the 2023/24 season. According to him, the Russian goalkeeper received an average of $ 4 million a year. Under the new contract, according to the Capfriendly portal, the goalkeeper will earn an average of $8.25 million per year.

More than this amount among goalkeepers at the moment, only the Russians Andrey Vasilevsky from Tampa and Sergey Bobrovsky, who plays for Florida, have an average annual salary. Vasilevsky earns an average of $9.5 million a year, Bobrovsky – $10 million a year.

In the regular season of the 2022/23 season, Sorokin took part in 62 matches, in which his team won 31 victories. Sorokin, 27, was selected 78th overall by the Islanders in the 2014 draft. The Russian has been playing for the team from New York since 2021. He previously played for Metallurg Novokuznetsk and CSKA Moscow, where he won the 2019 Gagarin Cup.
