Russian gas supplies to Austria are rising again to pre-war levels

Like many European countries, Austria has seen its Russian gas supplies drop significantly in 2022. In the meantime, the country is again receiving plenty of gas from the Russian Federation.

Why is this important?

Last year, Russia severely curtailed gas supplies to Europe in response to Western sanctions against the country. They came after the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine. This has caused European gas prices to rise sharply. In the meantime, those prices have fallen.

In the news: Gazprom again supplies plenty of gas to Austria.

  • While Russian gas supplies to Austria had fallen to 30 percent of their pre-war levels some time ago, they have risen again to 100 percent at the beginning of this year.
  • Austria was heavily dependent on Russian gas before the outbreak of war.

The details: everything for Austria, nothing for Germany.

  • The information comes from Reinhard Florey, CFO of the large Austrian energy company
