Russian Foreign Ministry Official Maria Zakharova Disputes British Newspaper’s Allegations of Russian Embassy Involvement in Almost Disrupting Charles III Coronation

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova called an article in the British newspaper The Telegraph about how the Russian Embassy in London allegedly almost disrupted the coronation of Charles III in May 2023 a “heartbreaking story” vying for the “Russophobia of the Month” prize.

“It turns out that during a sacred ceremony an unidentified drone was patrolling over Buckingham Palace. The police, of course, immediately began to suspect… the Russian Embassy,” the diplomat wrote in her Telegram channel, commenting on the publication.

As Zakharova emphasized, “it was only after some time that it became clear that the drone was launched by a certain Walid Marai36 years old, US citizen.”

“Whether he was a CIA spy or just wanted to take a picture of Charles III from an unusual angle is not reported. It’s a pity. In my opinion, this would be of interest to the local audience,” she noted.

“If the version with our embassy had prevailed, apparently, as always, the matter would have ended with the expulsion of diplomats. And so Walid Marai got away with a fine of 5 thousand pounds,” concluded the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
